Wine Description & Tasting Notes
Imagine a winemaking region just hours north of San Francisco rich in diversity and distinctive terroir, a well-kept secret tucked amongst the towering redwoods and influenced by the Pacific Ocean. Over half a century ago, pioneering growers recognised the Russian River Valley as a place that just might produce Pinot Noir & Chardonnay that rivaled the villages of Burgundy. After decades of winemaking and selective planting, their valley has become internationally known for producing Pinot Noir an Chardonnay that is distinctly American and reflects the natural influences of their terroir.
Wine Making:
The grapes are harvested in the cool morning hours. A quick pass was made through the rows a few days prior to harvest in order to drop fruit that didn’t express the optimal flavour and concentration. As anticipated, the grapes that were delivered to the winery were packed
with delicious, vibrant, varietally expressive characteristics. After a very careful hand-sorting, all the fruit is combined in the press, and a gentle program is used to extract only the most desirable parts of the grapes. The resulting juice is left in tank to cold-settle overnight before being transferred to 30% new and 70% one to three-year-old neutral French oak barrels and puncheons for fermentation and aging, where it remains for 9 months on its primary lees until it was time to bottle in June.

This Gary Farrell Chardonnay is big, bold and delightfully balanced. Rich with layers of flavours and age worthy too!
Nose: Fresh aromas of white peach, honeysuckle, honeydew melon and meyer lemon.
Palate: Rich, with an abundance of layers of flavours – nectarines, meyer lemons, ginger honey, brioche, lime zest and hints of hazelnut. The finish is long and creamy, yet bright and tangy.
Food Pairings: One to sip and savour but would love to be paired with grilled/roasted poultry and pork. The creamy and buttery notes also make a perfect pairing for Mac & Cheese and buttered popcorn.
