We enjoyed a light but delicious lunch with Leo in the glorious sun before heading off for a wonder around the vineyard.

They do guided vineyard tours on Saturdays which include a wine tasting too!

First up from the new @drfrankwine wines is the Gewürztraminer.

A highly individualistic grape that’s prized for its aromatic bouquet and medium to full body. The Gewürztraminer by Dr. konstantin Frank is grown on the steep slopes of deep glacial lakes which help moderate the cool climate temperatures throughout the year.

The cold maceration process prior to fermentation allows the bouquet of the grape shine brighter and so the nose is very pronounced and vibrant with aromas of lychee, rose petals and honey. The palate is medium full with a touch of that desired oily tongue coating. It’s slightly off dry though dry and lean compared to most other Gewürztraminers and very different from the more well known Alsace wines.

Let’s talk Tequila!

And Mezcal, admittedly both of which we know very little about.

Tequila sadly in the UK has a terrible reputation thanks to the cheap and terrible tasting stuff served in most Clubs and Bars. Most of our experience of it is exactly that.

But our friend @mattdwilliams1981 introduced us to a sipping Tequila one day and that was the turning point. We’ve been on the look out since.

Randomly we were contacted by @axiom_brands about their premium @casadragones tequila. Perfect timing and we’re having a Zoom tasting on Monday.

We’ve got our hands on some East Coast wines!

Both from the Finger Lakes wine region of New York State which has a similar cool climate to Oregon on the west coast.

Dr Konstantin Frank, gained his PHD in Viticulture in Ukraine in 1930 and emigrated to the US in 1951 with the hope of a better future for his family. 7 years later after falling for the steep slopes and climate of the Finger Lakes area he planted the first European grape varieties in the East Coast.

Now into the fourth generation the Frank family are still producing from some of Americas oldest vines. Their wines are lean and crisp with each grape variety allowed to express themselves fully.

Not only do we reuse boxes that our wines come in to pack your wines into we also shred the spare ones to use as protective packaging for your wines too.

Now to add more eco friendliness, we’ve got a plug in hybrid to deliver those eco packaged wines to you! (Sorry we can only manage east and mid Devon ourselves, the rest is APC)

Sadly we would struggle with full electric as we live in a flat in town with very few charging points. Hence the weekly charge at the parents 😂😁 (does mean we visit more though!)
