@chateaumusar has some serious history!

Lebanese wine heritage begins with the Phoenicians, 4000 years ago, who are said to be the first to cultivate vines professionally and trade wines internationally.

In 1930 Gaston Hochar returned from Bordeaux aged just 20 years old, and started planting the first vines of Chateau Musar.

However it’s not just the history it’s the determination and tenacity of the Hochar Family that shocks. They consistently produced vintages through the Second World War and even more impressively through Civil war between 1975 to 1990!

Most famously was how they managed the 1982 vintage where 80 hectares of their vineyards became the frontline for the Israeli and Syrian tanks! The grapes were only harvested by chance when there was a break in fighting and shelling. The pickers would dash in to collect what they could, grape transport was equally dangerous to the winery and wine making was dependent on if Serge Hochar (son of Gaston Hochar) had clear roads to get to the winery!

It’s a mind blowing story, but for those who didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy a bit of history in a glass from those vintages, Chateau Musar is also famous for their signature red wine’s longevity. Before release the wines are already aged for 7 years at the winery. But even at this age they’re considered young and although hitting varying peaks whilst aging they can happily age for 30 years or more!

We’ve just received our final batch of 2015 Chateau Musar which is just about to hit its first peak of firm structure but still fresh rich black fruits.

Grab your bottle of this historic wine at www.wine-hub.co.uk or drop by our shop Tuesday- Saturday.

It was Sonia’s birthday over the weekend!

Of course we had a custom mango cream cake made by Arthur’s mum for Sonia!

Most of you will know Sonia from her front of house service from the beginning till September last year when unfortunately due to health reasons she had to step back.

But now, she’s still the perfectionist who keeps the business running smoothly behind the scenes and continues to find ways to make Arthur’s Wine Hub ideas a reality.

Happy birthday Sonia! 🥂❤️

Do you love Chardonnay too?

On Friday the 13th, we tasted these 6 vastly different expressions of a grape that we feel has a bad rep from the 90s and never recovered, Chardonnay.

We love the versatility, malleability and adaptability of Chardonnay that allows it to create such a variety of wines.

We started off with its most famous use in a blend, the champagne blend, with Pinot noir and Pinot meunier. Although as many of you know we’re big supporters of English wine so we tasted the vibrant and indulgent classic sparkling from @huxbear_vineyard .

We then dived straight into Burgundy classics with the Bourgogne Chardonnay showing elegance and balance and the favourite of the evening, Chablis wowing with vibrancy, depth and longevity.

Before tasting Burgundy royalty though we took moment to explore the new world with a subtlety oaked Aussie and big and juicy Californian. These both surprised with their vastly contrasting flavours to the Burgundian wines. They certainly divided the room!

Finally we tasted Chardonnay Royalty, a 2016 Mersault from @patriarchepereetfils . Beautifully creamy, buttery, brioche with an abundance of ripe peaches and apricots giving images of a peach cobbler served with clotted cream.

Next up it’s our 5 Course Taco and Wine tasting! If you haven’t yet, then book your tickets on our website www.wine-hub.co.uk

The steps of Burgundy Chardonnay!

A part of our Chardonnay tasting this Friday 13th , are these 3 styles from the home of Chardonnay, Burgundy.

From the Bourgogne Chardonnay, an elegant introduction to burgundy via a blend of grapes from across the region.

To the “that’s not a Chardonnay” Chablis which shows Chardonnay in a crisp, unoaked, zesty style.

Finishing at what some say is the peak of Burgundian Chardonnay, Mersault.

In between these though there’s some new world takes on Chardonnay and of course some sparkling!

To join in for a Chardonnay journey, head to our website to book the last few spaces at www.wine-hub.co.uk

It’s rare, it’s delicious, but have you heard of Ruché?

Ruché is an indigenous Italian grape which is predominantly used in producing Ruché Di Castagnole Monferrato in the Piedmont region. It’s one of the lowest yield varietal wines in Italy and in the Word!

This one from @vinchiovaglio has pronounced floral and spicy aromas with a backdrop of morello cherries. On the palate the cherries take the front foot with balanced acidity and a dry but soft finish. The finish lingers though with those spicy floral aromas reappearing.

This wine region also achieved the prestigious DOCG classification in 2010 and has only grown in popularity in recent years!

Grab yourself a bottle on our website www.wine-hub.co.uk

It’s incredible with tomato based pizzas and BBQs
